Metallography
Fracture Mechanics Services
Fracture toughness has become a segment of the materials testing done at
MTEC. Collectively, a test laboratory and machine shop provide a complete
facility for specimen manufacture, precracking and testing over a range of loading
conditions and temperatures. Typical activities include:
Fracture toughness test (Compact Tension) per ASTM E399.
CTOD, a measure of fracture toughness (Compact Tension) per ASTM E813.
Metallography
MTEC has the facilities to provide full metallographic services. Reproducibility is achieved with automatic polishing systems. This automated system will provide large quantity sample output combined with quality surface preparation. Metallographic services include:
Sample preparation of all metals, alloys coatings and electronic components.
Macro
and micro etching of these materials as well.
Photomicrographs.
Failure Analysis.
Microhardness testing.
Microcleanliness and Grain size determinations.
Ferrite Point Count with photos.
Specimen Manufacture
MTEC operates complete facilities especially planned for the manufacture of test specimens. The shop equipment is set up specifically for the production of test specimens of both standard and specialized configurations. Low stress grinding and other controls are employed in manufacture to ensure a high degree of uniformity.
Data Acquisition/Certifications
A fully integrated system for order entry, shop work order generation, testing
data acquisition and certification of test results has been developed and implemented
at MTEC to provide quick and dependable service to our customers.
Quality Assurance
MTEC is committed to serving its customers by conforming to specified requirements, expeditiously and accurately. We accomplish our commitment through strict adherence to our Quality Manual and supporting procedures. Our personnel is continuously trained and dedicated to quality performance. Test specimens are manufactured and inspected for conformance to the applicable drawings and specifications. Testing equipment inspection tools are calibrated and traceable to the National Institute of Standards & Technology. We verify our own performance through audits and management review. Our records, including graphics, are stored on computer and backed-up daily,
making them retrievable for our customers. We are committed to
grow our business through customer satisfaction.
Machining Equipment
Sheffield Model 110 Multiform Grinder
The model 110 grinder is a versatile, high speed production machine designed
for grinding cylindrical parts of intricate and precise profile. Feed
and control functions are performed automatically permitting the operator to
manage more than one machine at a time. The principle uses of this grinder
are:
0.250 Rt, 0.250 elevated temperature and 0.350 diameter tensiles.
Combination and smooth stress ruptures.
NACE stress corrosion.
Gleebles and slow strain rate test specimens.
Fatigue tests with gauge length up to 1.00".
Two Sheffield Model 187 Multiform Grinders
In addition to the above mentioned benefits, the model 187 is used to grind:
0.500 diameter room temperature and elevated temperature tensiles.
Fatigue tests with gauge length up to 2.00".
Jones and Lamson Model 410 Thread and Form Grinder
This equipment is used to:
Notch cylindrical specimens to final dimension.
Thread grinding.
Two Charpy "V" Broad Machines
Notch Charpy and Izod specimens.
Two Thompson Surface Grinders
For precision grinding of impact and fracture mechanics samples.
Two Engine Lathes
Lathes are used for general turning operations with specific uses presented
below:
Turning straight and step down magnetic particle test.
Jominy hardenability.
Fixtures for test machines.
Two Vertical Mills
Vertical mill is used primarily for locating and drilling clevis pin holes
at precise locations in compact tension and DCB samples.
General light milling operations.
Horizontal Mill
Horizontal mill operations are:
Milling crack starter notch in compact tension and DCB specimens.
Reduced section tensiles.
V and U notch in high temperature alloys and austentic stainless steel Charpys.
