Materials Evaluation Testing

  • Tension, both room and elevated temperature
  • Stress Rupture.
  • Creep and Creep Rupture.
  • Impact Testing to -320°F.
  • Fatigue Testing.

Test conditions can be applied to standard specimens within the capacity of the test equipment. Mechanical or electronic extensometry and related instrumentation are used as appropriate.

MTEC is operating 6 creep rupture, one universal, two servo hydraulic, one impact testing machine and two Krouse fatigue machines.

    Fracture Mechanics Services

Fracture toughness has become a segment of the materials testing done at MTEC. Collectively, a test laboratory and a machine shop provide a complete facility for specimen manufacture, precracking and testing over a range of loading conditions and temperatures. Typical activities include:
  • Fracture toughness test (Compact Tension) per ASTM E399.
  • JIC, a measure of fracture toughness test (Compact Tension) per ASTM E1290 & BS 7448.

    Metallography

MTEC has the facilities to provide full metallographic services. Reproducibilty is achieved with automatic polishing systems. This automated systems will provide larege quantity sample output combined with quality surface preparation. Metallographic sevices include:
  • Sample preparation of all metals, alloys coating an elctronic components. Macro and micro etching of these materials as well.
  • Photomicrographs.
  • Failure Analysis.
  • Microhardness Testing.
  • Microcleaness and Grain size determinations.
  • Ferrite by point count with photos.

    Specimen Manufacture

MTEC operates complete facilities especially planned for the manufacture of test specimens. The shop equipment is set up specifically for production of test specimens of both standard and specialized configurations. Low stress grinding and other controls are employed in manufacture to ensure a high degree of uniformity.

    Test Material Heat Treatment

  • Temperature capabilities up to 2300°F with furnace uniformity of + or - 5°F. water and oil quenched.
  • To ensure test material is heat treated in accordance with requirements, calibrated check thermocouples are used with each furnace load.
